spooky & gay: fall media recs

I’m not so much swayed by the concept of Halloween as I am enamored with the idea of Fall. It’s basically a season-long theme party, something to break up the indistinguishable days of going to work, eating dinner, rinsing & repeating.

I have been feeling uninspired writing these days, but I always love to talk about what I’ve been watching / reading / enjoying!

I’m less of a classic horror film girl and more of a generally dark, weird vibe. Here are my recs for fall!!

No other show deserves this spot… sorry not sorry, this show harbors some of the best acting I’ve seen in a long time. They see gay, they say gay, and the story keeps you on the edge of your seat. It was SO worth accidentally buying AMC+ for a month to watch the second season.

This show has such a complex and grounded exploration of abuse and trauma and its ripple effects. Memory, love, and trust are twisted and obfuscated in a delicious fucking way that I can’t compare to any existing show.

• Bunny by Mona Awad

  • Dark Fiction, Magical Realism

  • Only non-gay book on this list but WORTH it

  • Fever-dream about one' writer’s experience in a cliquey MFA program. Trust me!!
